Wilderness First Aid

This Wilderness First Aid course is designed to help you prepare for the unexpected in outdoor settings. Whether you work in the outdoors, interpret in outdoor or conservation settings, attend or staff wilderness camps, or enjoy weekend adventures with family and friends, this training will help you build practical wilderness medicine skills and confidence.

The course is suitable for all experience levels and is best for people who spend time in areas where emergency medical response may take up to eight hours.

Through hands-on, scenario-based learning, you’ll practice:

  • The Patient Assessment System

  • Providing effective first aid for common wilderness illnesses and injuries

  • Making evacuation decisions based on patient condition and available resources

The course is taught entirely in ASL, by and for the Deaf community.

Course Schedule: 10/30: 2pm -6pm; 10/31: 8am - 5pm; 11/1: 8am - 5pm

Course registration includes WFA certification upon successful completion of the course. Registration Fees:

  • $250 Advance Registration — registration received by October 23rd

  • $300 Standard Registration: — registration received after October 23rd


Course Instructor:

Sam (Marlo) Bragg (she/they) is a Deaf outdoor leader and educator serving as the Field and Logistics Director at CorpsTHAT, a Deaf-led nonprofit expanding access to outdoor education, conservation careers, and leadership opportunities.

With over 13 years of experience in outdoor leadership and education, Marlo leads training focused on wilderness medicine, inclusion, and risk management. They are the first Deaf-certified Wilderness First Aid Instructor and are passionate about increasing access to wilderness medicine education and creating more inclusive outdoor experiences.

Marlo holds a Master’s degree in Outdoor Leadership from Saybrook University and NOLS and is certified as a Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness First Aid Instructor, Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructor, and Level A Sawyer. Outside of work, they enjoy rock climbing, backpacking, trail running, skiing, bikepacking, and paddling.
