Learn American Sign Language for the outdoors and more!
ASL Courses and Trainings
CorpsTHAT offers virtual ASL courses for individuals and organizations to communicate with Deaf people while working, recreating, or volunteering in the outdoor field. Courses meet on Zoom, with a maximum of 8 students, and are taught by native Deaf ASL signers who have extensive experience in the outdoors. Along with basic vocabulary and grammar, students will learn an introduction to Deaf culture and etiquette tailored to outdoor settings. We offer two types of course setups: Public and Group Courses.
Public Courses: Public Courses are for individuals interested in taking one of our pre-scheduled ASL courses. Courses offered during the fall, winter, and spring seasons
Group Courses: Private Courses set up for agencies, organizations, or community groups interested in learning ASL together.
ASL Courses for the Outdoors
ASL Level 1
ASL Level 1 is our beginning course, designed for students with little or no prior knowledge of American Sign Language. Students will learn basic conversational skills and introductory vocabulary, with a focus on practical communication for working, volunteering, and recreating in outdoor settings.
ASL Level 2 is our beginning-intermediate course, designed for students with some prior knowledge of American Sign Language who want to continue their study. Students will expand their vocabulary, strengthen basic conversational skills, and practice practical communication in everyday and outdoor settings.
ASL Level 2
ASL Level 3
ASL Level 3 is our intermediate course, designed for students who have a solid foundation in American Sign Language and want to refine their skills. Students will develop more complex sentences, expand their vocabulary, and practice real-world interactions, such as giving and following directions and engaging in everyday conversations.
ASL Level 4
ASL Level 4 is our intermediate-advanced course, designed for students who have completed ASL Level 3 or have a strong foundation in American Sign Language. Students will continue to expand conversational skills, practice more complex sentence structures, and build vocabulary for a wider range of real-world situations, with a focus on practical communication in work, volunteer, and outdoor settings.
ASL Level 5
ASL Level 5 is our advanced course, designed for students who have completed the ASL series or have a solid foundation in ASL. Students will refine grammar, expand vocabulary, and deepen their understanding of Deaf culture, with presentations from Deaf professionals working in outdoor and environmental fields.
