Inclusion Training - Working with the Deaf Community in the Outdoors

CorpsTHAT is offering virtual, 2-hour training sessions for outdoor partners and professionals who want to learn more about inclusion and access when working with or engaging the Deaf community in outdoor programming and conservation projects.

This training is designed for both conservation and recreation fields:

  • Conservation field: land managers and conservation corps

  • Recreation: guides, park interpreters, and outdoor educators

The training will cover:

  • Introduction to the Deaf community and Deaf culture

  • Resources for learning ASL

  • Hiring qualified interpreters

  • Working with interpreters and understanding boundaries

  • Working with Deaf and hearing leaders

  • Communication and safety in outdoor settings

  • Minimizing risk and responding to emergencies
