ASL for the Outdoors Courses: Beginner (M/W)


This course meets online Monday and Wednesday 12pm to 1pm (EST)

Course starts on March 9th and ending on May 13th (with a makeup date on May 18th).


This is a ASL 1 Course, intended for beginners or newly beginners who still are not at a conversational level in ASL.

Course Material will cover:

  • Handshapes, letters and numbers
  • Greetings
  • Different Types of Questions
  • ASL Grammar Structure and Descriptive Verbs
  • Directions
  • Outdoor Recreation Vocabulary
  • Safety Vocabulary
  • Animals and Nature Vocabulary
  • National Parks and Forest Vocabulary




CorpsTHAT’s ASL Courses are unique, in that they are specifically geared towards learning the ASL needed for outdoor settings and are personally tailored to fit participants’ interest and professional needs.  Vocabulary, topics and discussion taught in the course will enable participants to use their emerging ASL knowledge in outdoor settings or when talking about outdoor gear and activities.

Courses are an hour long, twice a week lasting for 10 weeks.  All courses will be taught through the Zoom platform, a link will be emailed at the start of the class.  All participants will need access to high speed internet and a webcam.  Participants will be expected to attend all the classes and inform the instructor if they will be missing a class.


**Courses will run with a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 6.  If you sign up for a course and it does not meet the minimum number of students by the start date, you will be refunded in full.
